Great Minds Think Alike

Süleymaniye Mosque, İstanbul, Turkey

II Redentore, Venice, Italy

Isn't it fascinating that two architects who lived during the

same period, yet there is no historical record of them meeting but managed to complete their works in such a harmonious way, almost as if they belonged to each other?

Although, Mimar Sinan's Süleymaniye Mosque from Ottoman architecture and Andrea Palladio's Il Redentore (Church

of the Most Holy Redeemer) from Renaissance architecture

are geographically distant from each other, their compositions and distinctive architectural elements present remarkable similarities. The way light filters through windows and

openings to create a divine atmosphere, the similarities in

the rounded arches and dome structures...Also,the resemblance in their columns in terms of texture, capital, and composition, sometimes even being identical... Who knows, perhaps there's an architectural story between these two architects that we are unaware of?
