Nexus is a multifunctional complex located in Dolapdere,Istanbul,Turkey.It offers various workshops such as glass,dance ,ceramics and textile; personalized residential units, and an exhibition space.The exhibiton/social space within inflatable structural elements.The main load bearing system is timber frame, supplemented with columns and suspended inatable balloons, creating a unique spatial experience for residents and visitors alike. The name of Nexus comes from circulation and scenarios between spaces.This projects aims to be connection between artisans and people. Inflatable baloon which is made of an transparent textile gives couple of messages.
Inflatable part - the message -
- 1st it has role of being the center of the complex,
- 2nd due to its transparency, the exhibition or performance can be
viewed from street as well,
- 3rd by incorporating a textile element into the structure, it pays homage to the textile artisans living inside, and just as the shape formed when the glass is blown while hot becomes round, resembling
how the columns and beams shape the fabric and the airwithin, it is shaped by glass artisans.

Material
PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride): Main material for the inflatable structure.
Structural Design Suspended Effect: Achieved by attaching steel cables to: Timber frame load-bearing system,the ground.
Air Compressor System Placement:
Partially concealed within hollow core slabs. Visible on each floor.
Air Pipes: Majority exposed to contrast the timber. Create a visual contrast between traditional and mechanical elements.
Design Intent Contrast:
Timber frame represents natural, traditional architecture.
Exposed compressors, air ducts, and inflatable structure create a mechanical atmosphere.
References the architectural contrasts and improvisations typical of Dolapdere.
Entrance System Door System: Called “flaps/lips.” Multiple layers for durability, strength, and insulation. Nylon zippers around outline (to secure).
Outer Layer: Made of durable materials like PVC or nylon for protection against the elements.
Inner Layer: Provides added strength and insulation.

Yapısal Tasarım Asılı Etki: Çelik kablolarla ahşap taşıyıcı sisteme ve zemine bağlanarak elde edilir.
Hava Kompresör Sistemi Yerleşimi: Kısmen boşluklu döşeme plakları içinde gizlidir. Her katta görünür şekilde yer alır.
Hava Boruları: Büyük çoğunluğu açıktadır, ahşapla tezat oluşturacak şekilde tasarlanmıştır. Geleneksel ve mekanik öğeler arasında görsel bir karşıtlık yaratır.
Tasarım Amacı Kontrast: Ahşap taşıyıcı sistem doğal ve geleneksel mimariyi temsil eder. Açıkta bırakılmış kompresörler, hava boruları ve şişirilebilir yapı mekanik bir atmosfer oluşturur. Bu durum, Dolapdere’ye özgü mimari zıtlıkları ve doğaçlamaları referans alır.
Giriş Sistemi Kapı Sistemi: “Kanatlar/dudaklar” olarak adlandırılır. Dayanıklılık, güç ve yalıtım için çok katmanlıdır. Kenarlarında naylon fermuarlar bulunur.
Dış Katman: PVC veya naylon gibi dayanıklı malzemelerden yapılır, dış etkilere karşı koruma sağlar.
İç Katman: Ekstra dayanıklılık ve yalıtım sağlar.
